EDİBLE OIL PRODUCTION STAGES

Edible Oil is produced with four steps to be Preparation, Pressing, Extraction and Refining. All of the detailed process stages are as follows:

PREPARATION PROCESS

It includes processing of seed prior to extraction. At this stage, shells of seeds are broken, and the fat-free parts are sieved with special sieve machine.

PRESSING PROCESS

After the preparation stage, oil-containing seed pieces are crushed with a special pressing machine, and oil in substances is removed.

EXTRACTION PROCESS

Oil cake is separated by liquid-solid extraction. This is the most important stage of edible oil production. At this stage, a suitable solvent such as hexane is used to accelerate the removal of oil in seed, and oil decomposes by distillation of solvent under mild vacuum.

REFINING PROCESS

Raw oil obtained by the extraction process contains many impurities which the consumers will not prefer. These impurities must be reduced to an acceptable level by the refining process. Chemical purification consists of gum removal, neutralization, bleaching, wintering, and deodorization.
